## Goals

Every website has a purpose: a signup, a purchase, a download, a contact form submission. **Goals let you track these conversions** with a single click. No tag managers, no conversion pixels, no third-party scripts. Just define what success looks like.

Create **path-based goals** that trigger when users visit specific URLs, or **event-based goals** that trigger on custom events with specific property values. Track purchases only when the plan is “enterprise,” or count signups only from a specific landing page.

Goals work alongside the rest of Rybbit. Filter your goals by any dimension (traffic source, country, device) to understand **which segments convert best**. Pair with funnels to see the path to conversion, and session replay to watch what happens when users _don't_ convert.

## What you can do

### Path-based goals
Track conversions when users visit specific URLs. Use pattern matching to capture variations like /signup, /thank-you, or /checkout/success.

### Event-based goals
Track conversions triggered by custom events: signups, purchases, downloads, or any interaction you define.

### Completion count & rate
See how many times each goal was completed and the conversion rate relative to your total visitors or sessions.

### Event property conditions
Define goals with specific event property conditions. For example, track only purchases where plan equals 'pro'.

### Unlimited goals
Create as many goals as you need. Track every conversion point in your product without worrying about limits.

### Trend tracking
See how your goal completion rates change over time. Compare periods to measure the impact of changes.

## How it works

1. **Define your goal**
Choose between a path-based goal (user visits a URL) or an event-based goal (user triggers a custom event). Give it a name and set any conditions.
2. **Rybbit tracks completions**
Every matching pageview or event is counted as a goal completion. Data updates in real time with no sampling.
3. **Monitor conversion rates**
See your goal completion count and rate on your goals dashboard. Filter by any dimension to understand which segments convert best.
4. **Iterate and improve**
Use goal data alongside funnels and session replay to understand how many users convert, and why the others don't.
